PIERCING AFTERCARE

YOUR PIERCING NOT ONLY REPRESENTS YOU, BUT ALSO THE QUALITY AND REPUTATION OF THE PIERCER AND STUDIO.

After your piercing please follow their advised aftercare.

  • Please remember that your piercing is a wound which must be kept clean.  It is natural for your skin to sometimes swell, feel sore, bruise and look painful.

  • Wash your hands before touching the piercing, using a clean towel to dry your hands. Dirty towels can transfer bacteria which in turn can create an infection.

  • If the piercing has a dressing, navel, surface or nipple etc remove the dressing after 2 hours and throw away.  Do not reapply another dressing.

  • To wash the piercing, mix 500ml of clean warm water, with 1/4 tsp of Hibiscrub in a clean cup or bottle. Hibiscrub is a hospital-grade antibacterial soap, pink in colour, and is available from most pharmacies. We know Boots in Leek sells it.

  • Soak some cotton pads or a cotton bud in the water & Hibiscrub solution, and gently clean the piercing, taking care around the entrance and exit points, cleaning any crust that may have formed.

  • Carefully pat dry the piercing with a clean towel or kitchen roll, being careful not to catch the jewellery as this can prolong the healing process. Remember dirty towels can transfer bacteria which in turn can create an infection.

  • Repeat this twice daily.

  • Do not mess with, over clean, or use harsh products, such as alcohol, surgical spirit, tea tree oil or witch hazel on the piercing, as this may affect the outcome of the piercing and healing time.

Oral Piercings

  • Use the method above if your piercing has an external entrance/exit point, like a lip piercing, also rinse your mouth with a saltwater solution  2 - 3 times per day.  Dissolve 1tsp of salt in a cup of boiled water, then leave to cool before using.

  • Do not use normal dental mouthwash, as this can aggravate the new piercing.

  • Sip clean cold water to help with any pain or swelling.

  • Do not chew or bite the piercing as this could cause significant problems with the healing.
